Senior's Eye Exam
For seniors 65 and over
How long?
30-45 minutes
What to Bring?
OHIP card, current eyeglasses, contact lens boxes, a pair of sunglasses, a list of your medications
What to Expect?
Eyeglass prescription, dilating exam to check the health of your eyes, and digital retinal photos
Cost?
OHIP covers an annual eye exam for seniors 65 and over, retinal photos not covered
Similar to the adult comprehensive eye exam, this comprehensive exam checks for your vision and the health of your eyes. The same tests are performed as the adult eye exam (general health and vision history, visual acuity, refraction, glaucoma tests, dilated fundus exam, etc.) but starting at the year of 65, these tests are covered by OHIP once a year.
Although digital retinal photos are not covered by OHIP, our doctors highly recommend it because certain eye diseases like Age Related Macular Degeneration, cataracts and glaucoma are more common in patients over the age of 65. Fundus photos help to detect these diseases earlier, allowing a faster diagnosis and treatment plan to reduce its damaging effects.
